What to look forward to

Day 1 – Sunday: When arriving in Papua New Guinea, you’ll be greeted by our dedicated Pepeta tour staff at Jackson’s International Airport in Port Moresby. They will assist with your luggage and ensure a seamless transfer to your hotel in Port Moresby.

Day 2 – Monday: Early in the morning, you’ll check out from your hotel and head to the airport for a 6:30 am flight to Popondetta. Upon landing at Girua airport, a member of our team will welcome you and transfer you to Pui Duru village. From there, you’ll take a scenic 45-50 minutes drive to a coastal village, offering breathtaking views of North Coast villages. Your journey continues with a traditional welcome and light refreshments at your first coastal village stop. Afterward, you’ll go on a 45-50 minutes hike through the forest to reach Pui Duru village. Along the way, you’ll cool off with a refreshing swim at Taotutu creek before finally reaching your host village. ​

Day 3 – Tuesday: Get ready to go on a guided walking tour of Pui Duru village and hear stories about the local culture and heritage. The day will be filled with plenty of activities like hiking through the forest leading to Deu waterfall. Here, you can swim, stand beneath the cascading water, capture photographs, or simply unwind in the picturesque surroundings. A waterfall-side picnic and lunch await you, followed by a creek-side hike upstream, offering another refreshing swimming opportunity before returning to the village.

Day 4 – Wednesday: Kickstart your day with an early morning rainforest hike, providing a chance to marvel at the birdlife. Following the hike, you’ll enjoy breakfast at Taotutu creek. When breakfast is over you can go on a refreshing swim. A hearty lunch awaits you back at the guesthouse, along with an engaging afternoon session introducing you to local cuisine and traditional meal preparation. Later in the evening you’ll have the unique opportunity to co-create a traditional dinner with the local women.

Day 5 – Thursday: Enjoy a leisurely morning, you’ll have the opportunity to sleep in or simply relax at your own pace. Later in the day, you’ll watch a private culture show which features cultural activities, including clay pot cooking, sampling local cuisine such as sago porridge, demonstrations of crafting waist/arm bands and floor mats, insights into the craft of making fish traps, and traditional dances like Guru and tata’aun.

Day 6 – Friday: In the morning you’ll have the freedom to choose your activities. However, you’ll go on a creek brunch and swim adventure during the late morning. During brunch you will be served a locally prepared meal. You’ll have the opportunity to go swimming, soak in the sun, capture picturesque moments, and take in the serene ambiance.

Day 7 – Saturday: This is your free day and the last day with your local host village. You can plan your own day with activities that you would like to do with the help of the Pepeta team to assist you. You can visit a local vegetable garden with a family or take part in a morning hike & bird watching tour. There’s opportunities to hike to Taotutu, journey to Goradari creek for a spot of swimming or go on a Rainforest hike & waterfall swim. There’s dinner at the guesthouse too before a free evening.

Day 8 – Sunday: You’ll go on an early morning hike to the coastal village for your boat transfer. Following an hour and 45 minutes scenic boat ride, you’ll reach Popondetta town. You’ll get checked in to your lodge accommodation and the remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy at your leisure.

Day 9 – Monday: Your journey back home will start with an early morning transfer to the airport for a 7:30am flight to Port Moresby. Our team will be there to meet you and help with your international terminal transit. Depending on your international flight schedule, you’ll have flexibility to plan your activities in Port Moresby, with assistance from our team as needed.
